Sign in and get around quickly
Sign-in links, passwords, keyboard shortcuts and quick changes from a list

Signing in
The sign-in page emails you a link by default. Enter your email and choose Email me a sign-in link; the link is valid for 15 minutes and works once. If you have set a password, choose Sign in with a password instead and enter both. You can switch between the two at any time.
The same link form signs up a new address. Up to 5 links an hour go to one address; after that, new requests wait until the hour is up. The page answers the same way whether or not the address has an account, so it never tells anyone who has one.
To start with a password instead, choose Create a password instead on the Start free page. The account is created once you follow the link in the confirmation email.
A sign-in lasts 30 days on that device. After too many wrong passwords, the page asks you to wait a few minutes or to email yourself a sign-in link.
Setting or changing a password
There is no password screen in account settings. To set a password for the first time, or to change one, use Forgot password? on the sign-in page. It works for an account that has only ever used sign-in links, too.
- Choose Forgot password? and enter your email.
- Open the email titled Choose your InBrief password and choose Choose a password. The link is valid for 15 minutes and works once.
- Enter a New password and choose Save password and sign in.
Saving signs out every other device that was signed in to your account.
A password needs at least 15 characters. A few words in a row works well, and there are no rules about capitals, digits or symbols. It cannot contain your email address or the word "inbrief", and a password that has appeared in a known data breach is refused.
Command palette
In the dashboard, press Cmd+K on a Mac or Ctrl+K elsewhere to open the command palette, and press it again to close it. Type to jump to a dashboard page, a monitor (by name, slug or target) or one of the latest incidents. Pages your role cannot open are not listed.
Go-to shortcuts
Press g, then the second key within about a second:
| Keys | Opens |
|---|---|
| g m | Monitors |
| g i | Incidents |
| g a | Analytics |
| g c | Alert channels |
| g s | Subscribers, if your role can see them |
The shortcuts do nothing while you are typing in a field or while a dialog is open. The palette shows them beside the pages they open.
Pausing or resuming several monitors
- On Monitors, choose Select. It appears when the list has more than one monitor and your role can change monitors.
- Tick the monitors you want, or use Select all.
- Choose Pause or Resume and confirm. Pause counts only the monitors that are running, and Resume only the paused ones.
Pausing stops the checks and the alerts, and resolves any incident that was opened automatically for those monitors. Their history stays. Resuming counts against your monitor allowance: if one of them cannot resume, none of them do, and the dialog says why.
When the change is done, the message at the bottom of the screen offers Undo for a few seconds. It reverses exactly the monitors you changed. Owners, admins and members can pause and resume monitors; only owners and admins can do it to cron job monitors.
Posting a quick incident update
Every open incident under Live now, at the top of Incidents, has a Post an update form on its card. Pick a status, write What has changed and choose Send update. Choosing Resolved closes the incident.
Notify subscribers starts ticked, so your subscribers and webhooks hear about the update. Untick it to fix a typo or add a note quietly; the confirmation then reads "No subscriber email or webhook sent."
The quick form writes in your page's default language only. For other languages, or anything else the full editor offers, choose More options. Viewers do not see the form, and maintenance windows do not have one. Live now appears on the first page of the unfiltered list when nothing is being searched.
